TikTok Will Lift Your Spirits and the Importance of Sociability in Gaming

TikTok Makes You Happy

A recent report (from TikTok) has shown that the app was the only social or video platform where ”to lift my spirits” was the top reason for using it.  It went on to say how users felt that is was a great place to be yourself and 3 of 4 people said that TikTok is a place where people can express themselves openly.

We’ve spoken before about how the sheer quantity of content is one of the TikTok’s greatest assets and this research would go to back this up.  Where you have a platform that showcases every possible style and trend, you will likely be able to easily find your own tribe and the AI will quickly double down on that and reinforce your sense of fitting in and community.  Other networks work by provoking you to respond and engage, often through being divisive and polarising.  It looks like TikTok has found a way to effectively monetise the sense of belonging and community.  Long may it continue and may the other social networks learn a little from that.

Not All About Graphics

If you’ve not heard about it yet, you will do very soon.  The game Among Us is rocketing in popularity but not due to it’s incredible graphics or big name licenses.  The game is pretty hard to try and explain but in a nut shell you are either trying to sabotage your space ship or find out who is the saboteur.  Two of the reasons why it has done so well are firstly it is a very social game and friends use it as a means of getting together and chatting in the lockdown, second it makes for great video content as you watch your favourite streamers try work out which of their friends are secretly plotting to kill them!  In a similar fashion to other “game du jour” Fall Guy it is the fun party vibe that separates it from the Call of Duty and the FIFAs.
